Keith's Woody...inspired paint job!

Keith fondly remembers cruising around as a kid in the back of his family station wagon, wind in his face, the road revealing it's self as they advanced down the black pavement toward a new horizon.  He wanted to capture some of that spirit in the paint for his 29er, so we took inspiration from the genre to dress up his frame.

Key elements were to be the bright white top, a nice dark metallic blue for the body, and a wood grain panel on the downtube.

I started out by laying down three coats of sanded primer to give a bomber coat of protection to the steel frame...

Then with a little time and some masking, I created a bright white top tube with some rounded transitions to the metallic blue bottom, reminiscent of the pointed curves in the wagon trim above...

The whole frame was then masked off and the panel fogged in with some white, leaving some darker underlying areas to give us some visual depth to work with in a little bit...

I laid down a combination orange and yellow base panel and began airbrushing in the wood grain, using progressively darker paint lines to allow for more depth in certain aspects of the panel...
Once satisfied with the grain structure, two quick top coats with a custom mixed brown candy layer produced the hue of color that would cut the balance between the dark metallic blue and the white above...

All unwrapped and ready for clear...she's gonna be a stunner when all built up  :)

Once Keith gets home from GOBA, we'll get her put together and on the trail for some pics.

cheers,

rody

Oh. My. God. That crash story might be the best crash story of all time. I have *never* heard anything like it.

You should ebay the RacerX to help Roy pay for a new ride, eh? Call it the luckiest bike on earth or something...
